Doug and Rob take a look at George Lucas' jukebox musical. It's about as odd as a George Lucas jukebox musical would be. Let's take a look at Strange Magic.

I only know STRANGE MAGIC as the name of an early (1976) Jeff Lynne/Electric Light Orchestra song.. "Strannnngee-Magic/Ohop whoa Strange Magic..?"
Matthew Morrison saw "look at this face" and decide that's what the grinch needed.
This film is like seeing a tinkerbell movie
(Fortunate son intensifies)
I heard y'all say the way, and I had PTSD from THE. T I M E
I'd like to see a version of this movie with the songs EDITED OUT
my sister loved this movie and when ever she put it on and another song started (which is every 5 seconds) i'd cringe so hard i thought i was gonna puke
what a bad movie. i am so glad i skipped this. and they're way too much singing in it.
This movie is great, better than any pixar movie since 2010
This is actually my favorite movie... Ive loved this movie for the longest time and no other movie has brought me joy like this one does. I actually love every song in here and don't feel like it was too much lol
I loved this movie when I was younger, my only problem was the ending sequence. I literally felt like I was tripping on drugs and I was like,, 8
The fairies are turning me on.....WAIT THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT!!!!!
I'm surprised they didn't say anything about the bad dude kissing the bug scene...nightmares.
This piece of shit is from 2015!? George, what the hell!?
1:35 Tinkerbell is incredibly butch. A fairy mechanic! She is awesome!
Guilty pleasure
What's weird is that most of the songs feel like they were added for no reason other than to pad the run-time, and yet our main couple don't even meet until like an hour in!
Oh crud....this film is bad...nuff said
_slams hands down on the table_ *ITS NOT A MUSICAL*
Natural Rob is better than scripted Rob/character Rob
Still a better love story than twilight
ARO: laughs.
9:57 I just love how funny Doug's reaction when Rob said that😂😂🤣
Who's artwork is on 1:24?!
Does the Bog King remind anyone else of James Wood's Hades?
I always hate when there's an idea for a story that could easily be done really well and be a great movie. But then it's just done wrong and turns into stuff like this.
I am ashamed I ever enjoyed this channel
You’re making Tinkerbell look butch 😂
Look at this Face
I am still confused, how is this Midsummer's night dream. Yeah I mean there is a love potion in Midsummers night dream, but the humor came from how convoluted the plot to use the potion was. The idea of Oberon making Titannia falling love with an animal as spite not letting him keep a changeling child is alright. But through in the humans getting involved, Puck not understanding his instructions, making it both mischief and ignorance that fuels the plot, and a man getting his head turned into an donkey, makes it funny. But not only did they ditch that idea in this film, but the characters are not recongizable. Is the squirl gremlin thing supposed to be Puck? Ok, if it is, why doesn't he talk or do actual magic. Is the Bog King supposed to Oberon. Well that doesn't work, because Oberon is not nessicarly evil, nor is he good. That's the main thing that drives me nuts. There is no villain in Midsummers Night dream, nor is there in any Shakespeare comedy. Tragedies have villains, but the conflict for comedy comes from accidents and circumstances.
The first viewings are amazing
If it weren't for Alan Cummings and his Bog King, this movie would be 1000x's worse. That is the only thing that made any of it salvageable.
Amazing video and hilarious funny first viewing of strange magic.
5:13 I laughed *WAY TOO HARD* from that
My single favorite thing to watch. THANK YOU.
Rob, take that damn hat off. We know you're insecure, already. Just grow, man!
Rob: 10:03
First viewing > Actual review imo.
man this is the biggest "well that was a thing that happened" movie ever while still being forgettable
Yeah, the Bog King (Alan Cummings’ character) was the best thing in the movie. The movie itself is a huge ass mess that did have a few good ideas that were terribly executed (like the lead heroine and the villain getting together in the end; honest to god enemies to lovers), but it is a guilty pleasure of mine. The fanfics are also great.
I may be wrong but wasn’t this on Disney+ and then was taken out?
It's probably never going to happen, but I wish this movie could be re-made. Get better animation, take out the songs, and develop the characters a little better. I really did enjoy certain elements to this story, and it pains me to see it be lost within all the mistakes.
The R2D2 bit at the end had me laughing so hard. 🤣
I've never heard of this thing, but I have one complaint. For a film called Strange Magic, it's magic is very standard and not strange at all. The animation's great though.
The "look at this face" part killed me XD
Same.
Considering How much better Cutting out all the songs would make it
This movie could've had a lot of potential if it wasn't bloated with pointless pop songs and had a more solid script. I like the bog king's character design but, the other fairies creep me out and I don't know why.
I vaguely remember trailers and they weren't depicted as a musical? But I remember thinking the bog king and fairy were hilarious? How did I actually forget I wanted to see it and now I'm glad I didn't
You know when Disney asks, "How in the f*** do we sell merchandise for this movie?" You have an eff up animated film! 😂🤣😂🤣 Disney probably used Tinkerbell's pixie dust to make sure that everyone forgot about this movie.🧚🏼♀️🤔🚫
Tinketbell fairies vs villians from bugs life
I have seen this with my sister and I have no idea what happened.....
That was bad, what was George thinking? Or more likely not. PS. the cats are doing a number on your couch.
Y'know the artwork of this film looks strangely like allot like Rango. Not only is that film bat-shit insane I think it deserves a slot in Doug's Freak Show Cinema! Whether he likes it or not (There's really gross jokes) though 'yees' is anyone's guess.
I will admit I like the Stronger/Come On Marianne mix. I thought that was a good mix.
I was expecting a commentary about the scene of the imp being eaten by the lizard and still not wanting to give them the potion. Got disappointed. =/
Make the new tom and jerry movie review
this was my exs favourite movie. No wonder she is my ex.
She is a lucky woman.
people still watch these two chucklefucks?
Can you review a marvel movie like iron man or Thor or guardians of the galaxy
Doug, do Golion/Voltron with the Anime Man! Don’t make me get the Bat Credit Card!
Please do more first viewings!!!! I love these so much!!!
Honestly this movie is a guilty pleasure of mine, I know it's not good but I still enjoy some of the songs (they can be well sung) and I really like the relationship that develops between the Bog king and Marianne
The modern pop songs were really out of place. At least "Moulin Rouge!" didn't have magical creatures in it.
I absolutely agree with every point they made...... (but I still love the movie)
I haven't seen this movie in years and the only thing I remembered from it was the line "Look at this face" because when I was watching it first, I used to rewind it over and over again. It seems I still haven't matured because I'm still laughing at it xD EDIT: He just grabs his face and goes to random people and says "Look at it!"
I read somewhere that Lucas first decided on the songs he wanted to be in a movie and then wrote the story. So its pretty much like a mixtape and the Barbie Fairytopia movies got a LOVEchild. Anyways, I love this movie so much. But I love Love LOVE musicals.
Rob's humour is on point
4:02 Dark fairy king is channelling Nicolas Cage in that moment.
*FAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS*
All around me are familiar FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACES!
Rob: So you know how we're annoyed with the songs, because we're adults... Those are probably the only things entertaining the kids... Me, a 30 year old woman: I... feel a bit... attacked right now... XD Maybe it's because I went into this movie with the understanding that it was just a mediocre jukebox musical with a simple plot... But I enjoyed the animation, and liked hearing and singing along with the covers of these songs... and laughing at the cheesiness... I had fun watching this movie... Sometimes you don't want the deep, inspirational, innovative, thought-provoking, well-told story... Sometimes you just want a simple plot and random pop songs to sing or hum along with while you sit back and try to decompress after a long day of work, bills, problem-solving, and general adulting... You know?
I fcking love this film. Yeah, it's clishéd and all, but it knows it's a stupid, ham and chesse factory, and that's enough for me.
If it’s any consideration all most of yours guys first viewings still had average drive like ok here’s what’s happening. In this is what the F#
I actually quite enjoy this movie, well i like the juke-box like movies and the design of the fairies i like it. But i see its not the best movie
This is great and all but we want more Clone wars
I don't know if you still do these videos but i just watched Your Frozen Trilogy videos and Aladdind video and they are extremely excellent. I was wondering if you still do them if you could do this one. WHAT IF BOO PEEP WAS THE VILLAIN IN TOY STORY 4. Like what if she was gathering toys to rebel against the humans in some kind of gorilla war fair so Toys can be free. Respect dude and keep up the epic work.
Is the king supposed to look like Lucas?
It kind of reminds me of Arthur and the Invisiblez
Doug's getting thicc

0:47 Literally since when?
Why do I think of Phantom of the Opera when he sings "Look at this FAAAAACCCCCEEE!!!!"
Haven't done these in a while - Always a treat to see these First Viewings. You two play so well off each other! Picking out where Doug picked up material for the review adds a sort of Meta to the whole thing. Cheers Rob and Doug!
FIRST VIEWING!!!! I LOVE THESE!!!!
When I first saw this I despised it because of the music. But now when my kids watch it, I'll pop back in the room, just for the end with the interactions between MaryAnne and the Bog King.
Even my then 6 year old niece though it was bad and asked me to turn it off halfway.
I’ve REALLY missed these First Viewing videos!
💛
Notice a Tom and Jerry shirt. I bet you are going to watch the film today and give your review.
Bad with moments of life?
I really want the "bad guy" to be in a different movie all together. Maybe with the other three-four jokes that landed
Oh yes, my favorite series ya’ll do, and man do i need these laughs im about to get
I really liked the Bog King too. The best part of the film.
They said that all the funny moments had nothing to do with the songs, but they laughed at the Can’t Help My Self reprise and the comment complaining about all the singing Granted that’s only two
"Is Touchstone still a thing?" "No this killed it" XD
The movie is called Strange Magic. Where's my ELO, dammit?
I went to see this back when we had the second showing theater still around, in fact, this was probably the last film i got to see there before it closed down. My first thoughts were "Oh $h!t, its a fricken musical!" XP I almost walked out multiple times but it was like watching a train wreck. I HATED the sister and her insipid singing. The ONE good thing this movie did that held my interest was the relationship between the main fairy and the villain. I wanted more of that, it was a great story element I want to see more of. Just, you know. Done well. And not a pop musical. They really had something here.
Next week "Strange magic episode 2: Return of the gungans"! Which is were we find out this entire movie takes place on naboo right before the separatists attacked. How did creatures on naboo learn a bunch of pop songs from earth...I don't know, why does everyone in a galaxy far far away speak English? Makes about as much sense as anything else at this point.
4:06 Reminds me of Godzilla and Kong roaring at each other up close
Yeah, I’m all for having a musical, (even trolls were fine with the pop songs), but the more snipets of songs I get from this the more I hate them. It’s just too generic and flat. I understand what you mean by you need a song to progress the plot not just act as filler. Looking over a lot of the Disney musicals I can hardly think of one that doesn’t. Sure it’s not just a pop song stuck into place, but wow is that eye opening.
Maybe it's just me, but the original "Happy Feet" - for all its flaws and detractors - might have been ahead of its time as far as adding a unique spin to the jukebox musical subgenre; not to mention how it was possibly a source of influence for films like "Trolls" and "Strange Magic" (for better or worse).
Oh look, Rob Walker has grown a beard throughout the pandemic with his brother not having glasses nor a hat but still has a beard.
“You want what happened to the sugar plum fairy to happen to you?” “Please, no! I can’t go back to Nazi rats!”
FaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
The Bog King looks like the Monarch from Venture Bros. if he was dragged through mud then suffered severe burns
