The Terminator is a 1984 American science fiction film directed by James Cameron. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, a cyborg assassin sent back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose son will one day save mankind from extinction by a hostile Artifical Intelligence in a post-apocalyptic future. Michael Biehn plays Kyle Reese, a soldier sent back in time to protect Sarah. The screenplay is credited to Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd, while co-writer William Wisher Jr. received a credit for additional dialogue.

One reason I think this aged pretty well is that, with stop motion, there is something actually there on set. You don't have to try and create every single detail, like you do with computer animation. I think that's why The Mummy/Returns aged so badly; I don't remember the graphics being so corny the first time I saw it, but they sure are now. Even though those movies are technically more advanced than this one, they aged worse because of the progress in computer graphics. I kind of wonder if the same ageing will affect Jackson's Lord of the Rings saga. I can even see through the graphics in the latest and greatest (like the facial recreation in Rogue One), because you just can't quite recreate reality with a computer. Hence, when technology improves, the older movies that relied too heavily on CG look a lot less convincing than those that used practical effects that maybe weren't as impressive at the time.

I've always wondered who John Connor's original father was. Even if Kyle Reese & The Terminator hadn't gone back through time to physically alter Sarah's life she still would've ended up pregnant with John. Due to Reese being infatuated with Sarah he inserted himself into John's narrative. So I'm just curious as to who was the original man that got Sarah pregnant? Was he a one-night stand, boyfriend or fiancé? We'll never know....

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! I'm a horror fan, but I consider this movie a sci-fi slasher movie with a robot as a killer. Even though it's dated, Brad Fiedel's score is one of my favorite scores in film. Also, I met Michael Biehn at a con in 2019, and he's actually a pretty cool guy. Though, what baffled me was that he told me that people hated it when it came out and he didn't know until years later that people loved it. Was that true? Plus, when Terminator punches Bill Paxton, he didn't just punch him, HE RIPPED HIS HEART OUT!!!!!!

Good review but why ruin it by mentioning the pooh pooh stinky Fury Road, when The Road Warrior is the great sequel...the great action sci-fi, independent 80s CLASSIC! Mad Max had The Road Warrior and Terminator had T2, that simple. Although I think TRW was a more sincerer sequel than T2 was, as TRW kept it's R rating with good reason. Plus, there is nothing wrong at all for being very 80s, if I want to travel back in time to 30s 50s whatever...something dated just might fit that bill! As well, dated FX don't bother me like the modern repetitive and uninspired cgi goo of modern offerings. Man, I was lucky enough to see Terminator in a theatre one afternoon with friends, then later that day we went to see the Judas Priest and Krokus show...it was all very, very, very Metal in those days! Just look at me, so damn 80s lol

My points on Nostalgia Critic with Terminator: 0:16 This terrible photoshop. 3:50 [sighs] 4:05 The T-800 is stepping into the punks’ turf. The reason why they have their knives on him was not because of that, but also he demanded their clothes in a threatening tone. 5:01 Remind to DON’T look into Doug’s search history. 5:07 The reason why the cop was chasing Kyle was because he was obviously stealing that hobo’s pants and the cop was planning to take him in for theft and public nudity. 5:17 It’s called a JOKE, Doug. Something that builds character, unlike in your skit projects. 5:23 Michael Jackson wore a glove made of rhinestones and white spandex. The clothing with crystalline materials was very popular in the 80s. I would know, cos I’m a fan of that era. 5:28 I doubt that the T-800 even gives a shit about fashion. He finds what he can get to blend in with the humans. 5:32 The fans (and me) hated the star-shaped sunglasses in T3, because they don’t even fit with the T-850 and the clothes he wore at all and he didn’t even liked them as well. Not to mention, T3 was an absolute train wreck of a sequel. 5:58 Clearly, you didn’t watch enough Cult movies where Dick Miller was in. Rip Dick Miller (1928 - 2019) 6:07 This was from the time before gun safety was given the Protection Act in ‘86. Yeah, gun shops in early-mid 80s were risky business. 6:34 Shut the fuck up, Donnie. 6:38 Why is 80s fashion such a bother to you? This was from 1984, dumbass. Shows like The Jetsons and The Flintstones were very popular back then. Kinda like how Queen is popular in fashion back in the 2010s. 6:58 “It’s like this movie was set in the 1980s!” 8:05 How is this creepy? It’s playful teasing! And yeah, Sarah did call Matt a creep, but that was also a tease. Besides, Matt is dating Sarah’s roommate, Ginger, and this makes the two are friends as well. 8:07 I’d say the same for JewWario, Doug. What, too much? 8:14 Not exactly a fake-out, pet Iguanas are smart bastards and would sometimes sneak out of their cages. Then again, so can my Grey African Parrot. 8:28 The reason why the T-800 killed Matt and Ginger was because they would call the police and they were obstacles to the Cyborg. He didn’t expect that the couple would be in Sarah’s home. 8:38 Doug makes a necrophilia joke. Yuk. 8:54 A cop car did actually arrive at Tech Noir to take care of Sarah’s stalker. It only took about a few minutes. 9:05 The woman in the background clearly crouched down to comfort the man that the T-800 crushed and make sure he’s alright. Do you not pay attention to the background, Doug? 9:11 Doug thinks that a human being can easily outpace a bullet from up close. Also, Sarah didn’t expect the T-800 to pull out the gun and attempt to kill her on the spot. 9:20 Do NOT remind of that shitfest of a movie. 9:34 This fucking commercial break. 11:35 Where is the joke even going?? 11:58 The reason why the T-800 has Arnold’s Austrian accent was because James Cameron thought it sounded very mechanical and fitted the tone of an emotionless killer machine. 12:05 The T-800s are NOT easy to destroy with many 20th century firearms. A shotgun blast can only knock one down, but still wouldn’t kill it. In the future, it’s possible to kill them there, but only with weapons equal to their own, like phase plasma rifles. In the past, only explosive weaponry like RPGs, grenades and pipe bombs can easily destroy a T-800. 12:30 At this point, Sarah is more willing to believe what Kyle’s telling her. Hell, she saw the man who tried to kill her get up from a few shotgun blasts and jumped right onto her ride. It’s safe to tell her, that her stalker is not human. 12:40 Well, Kyle is also warning them of the T-800, since he’s also in the timeline and already knows that the machine’s on his way to the police station. And also, Dr. Silverman was pretending to care what Kyle was saying to him, which is why he explains to him about Skynet, the Cyborg killer, John Connor and the future war itself. 13:20 This is Los fucking Angeles! I’m sure, Sarah knows a fair bit about bullets and how fucking bulletproof vests works! Also, that fucking voice! 13:25 Doug, are you trying to go PC or something? [sighs] 14:01 What’s the joke here? Because Arnold reused that line in Last Action Hero years later? You guys start asking if I’m becoming CinemaSins, then that’s wrong. I’m more like becoming Th3Birdman. 15:20 “Almost pointless”? Firstly, they’re fucking flashback scenes and they’re there in this film to explain what the horrors of the future war with Skynet is like. Secondly, these flashbacks are hinting us that Kyle may have PTSD from all the events in his timeline that he went through. Lastly, if you cut out all of the future scenes, then that would make a serious plot hole, Doug. Without them, this would leave the viewers confused and not get the context of Kyle’s actions and explanations. Hell, that would take context out of Terminator 2 as well! 16:15 Dogs, as well as other canine creatures, have superior senses, like hearing, smelling and seeing. They are able to identify who’s human and who isn’t. This was shown in T2 and video game, Terminator Resistance. In the motel scene, Kyle and Sarah used a dog that was outside to help them when the T-800 and you cut that part out. Now, that is a low blow for manipulating your viewers, Doug. 16:37 This is to show that the T-800s can roughly learn human dialogue from previous encounters to blend in with humans. 17:05 I dunno, Doug. That scar looks convincing enough for me. 17:19 Actually, this makes better sense than you think. Kyle fell in love with Sarah, because she was the woman in that photo that he always admired for years. In his timeline, Kyle had lived in a world of devastation, despair and death. Sarah in the photo was in an era where time was easier to live in, where love can blossom and it was the era Kyle would love to live in and spend the rest of his live there with his special someone: Sarah Connor. 18:45 Skynet designed the T-800s’ endoskeleton to install fear into their human targets with a human skeleton-like appearance and teeth made out from actual humans. 19:04 I’ll agree, since the stop motion does look a little off. But this still freaks the fuck out of me, especially how the T-800 moves with a limp. Here’s a fan remade version of the T-800 endoskeleton movement. amget.info/have/dpqW2nuDu5mZpqI/video.html 20:16 This is actually an actuate angle shot. I would know, because I took a photography course in College. I took close shots and the photos would have similar results. 20:30 Again: “iT’S aLmOst liKe it ActUalLy CamE from tHe 80S!” 21:00 I’d say, the characters are more likeable than any Shakespeare character.

Apparently the studio wanted the movie to end after the truck explosion; Cameron flat-out refused and insisted on the endoskeleton climax

James Cameron: Sorry O.J. I just don't think you have what it takes for the role. You don't come off as a dangerous killer. Simpson: "Oh? Well thanks for the opportunity." *Thinks to himself* "I'ma show him. I'll show him I can be a killer. I show everybody!!"
